"Elaine Levine is a wonderfully fresh and original voice in western romance.
RACHEL AND THE HIRED GUN is full of fast-paced action and powerful emotions. I loved it!
" -- Joan Johnston, New York Times bestselling author of A STRANGER'S GAME.

Reviews!

"First-time author Levine draws on classic western themes and a rugged backdrop like a veteran of the genre. Her realistic characters leap from the pages yet never supersede the emotionally charged romance. The western is alive and well with authors like Levine."
--Kathe Robin, Four Stars from Romantic Times!

About The Men of Defiance Series

Where is Defiance Anyway?

Well, it isn’t. I made it up. I liked the sound of a town named Defiance. It brings to mind a place filled with conflict and drama. And hot Wyoming winds!

Here are some pics of places that were inspirational in the founding my fictional town:

South Pass City

This is South Pass City, Wyoming, in September 2006. It was a short-lived town founded in 1867 to support a brief gold rush in the area. Even before it was incorporated, the town was an important supply stop for emigrant travelers. It was visited by such notables as Butch Cassidy, Calamity Jane, Robert Todd Lincoln and General Phil Sheridan. Abandoned in 1948, it is now being painstakingly restored. It’s a lot of fun to visit, but, at an elevation of 7550 feet, it’s only open in the summer.

South Pass City

This is me and my great-niece, Aleka, at one of the miner’s cabins in South Pass City (my husband Barry’s taking the picture). Aleka made great friends with another little 4 year old, whom we never did see. Every time our niece pointed her out, it appeared she’d just run around a corner.

Later that day we did find a tiny grave in the cemetery at the top of the hill where a 4 year old girl was buried, alone and long forgotten…
